Lee Kuan Yew, father of modern Singapore, was not able to bring progress and prosperity in his country during the first 6 years of his rule. Same story with Mahathir Mohammed, builder of today’s Malaysia. So did Nelson Mandela, the first black President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999, despite his world-famous moral integrity, and notwithstanding the lavish support of many First World countries.

It is important for us to have a realistic view of what change we can achieve, so we could prevent disappointment from the public. Disappointment can stop or paralyze people.

I believe that the new president can effect change – good and substantial – in at least 8 areas. But this space is not the proper forum for that.

The more important question is – “What CHANGE can we do as a people?”

I am saying this because while change must occur inside, it must also emerge outside.

In fact, I believe that WE, THE PEOPLE, are the bigger part of the CHANGE we seek!

We, in Kabayanihan, believe that what our country needs today is a “Cultural Revolution”, a revolution of patriotism among our people, even through small acts of patriotism everyday. Every Filipino should be made part of the solution. Every family or company or organization should become part of the answer.

The youth should have their own list of little things they can do to help our country. Our overseas Filipinos should have their own list too. All public servants should also have their own list of things to better serve the public.

This means that every Filipino, wherever he or she may be, is creating good change for our country!

This is people power in action. This is people power for nation-building!

All the small changes we do everyday would soon bring about the big changes we all seek.

We believe that every Filipino is a Kabayani – isang kabayan na isa ring bayani.

In Kabayanihan, we believe that every Filipino – youth, parent, public servant, professional, businessman, farmer, overseas Filipinos, among others – is part of the Solution and part of the Hope of our country.

In Kabayanihan, we believe in the power of culture, that our culture shall be our future, that our culture as a people shall determine our greatness as a nation.

In Kabayanihan, we also believe in the power of little things in effecting change, in small acts of patriotism or heroism every Filipino can do to help our country.

We believe that ordinary Filipinos, wherever they may be in the world, can help build the Filipino and our Philippines great in the eyes of our people and of the world.

My God use you mightily for our country!
